BIRD HOUSE TURNED HAMMOCK

I'm loving this piece of outdoor furniture!  A human bird house / hammock / lounger... really neat-o!  I can just hear the birds chirping and feel a slight breeze, while taking a little nap in the back yard.

Not so sure I'm up for being suspended above a creek but hey, to each their own!

And I love this idea.  I could see this at a fancy resort with servers delivering cocktails in pineapples with umbrellas in them.

Speaking of pineapples... I think I'll go have a snack!

(Photo credit:  Not sure who took these photos but the company who makes these is named Dedon and this lounger can be found here!)

PRETTY WATER?

For the most part I try not to buy bottled water... seems a bit wasteful for everyday kinds of use.  But today I feel in love with a freaking bottle of water!  They have designed the most elegant packaging out there.  I'm not even sure where I can purchase it (or how much my water would cost) but I will be on the look out.  I love the simplicity of the type that is used.

Picture taken from 1 Litre website.
This would be perfect on the guest bedroom night stand for your guests.  It comes with it's own little cup... I heart!

A BEAUTIFUL WEB

There's more to see!  Check out Studio KMO's Etsy shop.

Can you imagine cutting all of this out by hand!?  Isn't it beautiful?  I love the chaos that the lines make... all those streets and boulevards intersecting to make a web of sorts.  It's really interesting to look at a map this way and to see the differences in cities around the globe.

An Etsy shop, Studio KMO, sells these beautiful hand cut pieces of art.  I would love to have one.  It's no surprise to me that an architectural designer is behind this madness.  This kind of work could only be from someone who has learned patients and dedication in design school!

Beautiful work!

PRETTY IN PINK

If you've know me for a while you know that I'm a fan of the color pink.  It was a color I once wore nearly everyday (and I'm not only talking about when I was 5)!  I've gotten away from that habit... but I still love the color.  If we ever have a child and it turns out to be a girl, lets just say, I hope she still loves me after all the pink she will be dressed in.

I'm not sure who to credit this photo to but you can find the full article here on Design Sponge.
I came across this image the other day and just fell in love.  I absolutely love the soft pink of this designers office... one day I will have my own private office that is painted this lovely shade of pink.  Actually, from what I can see, I'd take the entire room!  From the coffee colored floors to the white bookcases and a ton of natural light, there's a lot to adore.

ROCK THE VOTE!

Yesterday I submitted a Save the Date design on Minted... my very first submission, of many I hope!  I think it's a really neat thing that they've got going on.  Anyone who would like to enter can... you submit your design for the challenge and there are prizes for those who win.  Now, i'm not exactly sure how this all works but you've got to vote when it's time.  I'll keep you updated!

For those of you who were around me in my wedding planning (more like blog stalking) days, you know that I just love all things weddings!  I was so excited when I saw the design challenge and was hoping to get 5 of these puppies whipped up and well, that didn't happen!  Lots of ideas but nothing turned out worthy enough (at least in my eyes!). But I did end up with OMG Yes! and I love it.  I find humor in the whole 'OMG' craze (I use it more often then a 29 year old should) and I feel that it's a perfect funny message for young professionals who are getting married and purchasing Save the Dates.  I think it's exactly what they'd want!

Let's just be honest... I know when I was proposed to the first words out of my mouth weren't 'Yes'...

ZURICH'S RAILROAD VIADUCT

©2010 Ralph Hut, Zurich

Interior Design magazine had this small article on the transformation of Zurich's 19th century railroad viaduct.  The railroad is still operational (which is pretty crazy).  I remember seeing a different viaduct on my trip to Europe, they are quite substantial structures so I suppose it's not so crazy.  What they've done with Zurich's viaduct is pretty cool... it's now a shopping and restaurant destination.  I'd love to go shopping in this area!

But what I really like is the whole look of the development... the old stone arches that support the railroad in contrast to the new modern architecture that makes up each shop.  The shops are nestled into the arches and it's really just a nice complement.

One of the most recent additions to the district is a store called Komplementair, which is what the ID article is about.

WHAT'S YOUR DESIGN STYLE?

Today I was reading through Interior Design Magazine and came across a designer who put together this fun design style website.  It's called Sproost and it was developed by Melissa Winn (and a group of very important others!).  It's been around since 2008... so once again, I'm a little late.

They give you a short quiz... it's easy!  You select varying options of loving or hating the images that pop up.  With your input they are able to get an idea of what your style is.  The images range from traditional Asian or country to rustic or modern.

My design style ended up being 'Vintage Modern'. (50% Vintage Modern / 33% Hollywood Couture / 17% Rustic Revival).  Here's what they say about Vintage Modern.

"Flea Market anyone? You know you are drawn to modern furniture and interiors, and yet you really don't like a space that feels cold and sterile. And who could blame you? And that's why Vintage Modern is so appealing to you. Though the backdrop of the room, the walls and windows, are many times white or monochromatic, the furniture and accessories have the color, shape and texture to bring the warmth into the space. The great thing about Vintage Modern is ease of mixing different styles in the one space. You can have a new modular sofa mixed with a great pair of chairs that your grandmother purchased in the late 1950's and the new and old work appear as though they were destined for each other. What's great is that even if you don't have time for swap meets and garage sales, so many of the pieces from the mid-century were so great that they have been remade and mimicked year after year."

They go on to talk about material and color... what a fun idea!  They also suggest pieces of furniture and accessories that match your style... if you are in the market for some new items for the home.

Whats your design style?
